Regulatory basis: California Business & Professions Code — All alcoholic beverages consumed on a licensed premises must be purchased through the licensee. Violation can result in fines, suspension, or revocation of the ABC license. Statute references (§§ 23300 et seq.) should be confirmed with Skylinks’ ABC license conditions prior to external publication.
Policy Statement
Skylinks Golf Course (“Skylinks”) holds an Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) license issued by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Under California law, all alcohol consumed on Skylinks property must be purchased on-site through Skylinks’ licensed operations. No outside alcoholic beverages of any kind — including beer, wine, spirits, seltzers, or mixed drinks — may be brought onto or consumed anywhere on the premises.
This policy applies to all areas within Skylinks’ ABC licensed premises boundary, including but not limited to:
- The golf course and all holes
- The driving range and practice areas
- The pro shop and surrounding patios
- The Links Lounge and Sky Room
- Parking lots and walkways within the licensed boundary
- Event and party areas
- The kid zone perimeter and picnic areas
Staff should refer to the ABC license posting for the exact premises boundary if a question arises.
Why This Policy Exists
- Legal compliance — California ABC law prohibits consumption of alcohol not sold through the licensed establishment. Skylinks must enforce this to maintain its license in good standing.
- Liability protection — Skylinks bears legal responsibility for alcohol-related incidents on its property. Outside alcohol removes our ability to monitor consumption and serve responsibly.
- Guest safety — Responsible service practices (e.g., refusing service to visibly intoxicated individuals) cannot be applied to beverages we did not sell.
Rules
- No outside alcohol may be brought onto Skylinks’ licensed premises. This includes beverages carried in bags, coolers, or golf bags, or carried on one’s person while on the premises.
- All alcohol consumed on-site must be purchased from Skylinks. This includes the pro shop, beverage cart, Links Lounge, Sky Room, and any authorized Skylinks service point.
- All alcohol service on Skylinks property must go through Skylinks’ licensed operations only. Third-party licensed caterers or bartenders may not serve alcohol on-site without express written approval from Skylinks management.
- Private events and group bookings are not exempt. Event organizers must purchase and serve all alcohol through Skylinks’ licensed service.
- BYOB arrangements are not permitted under any circumstance.
Enforcement
| Situation | Staff Action |
| Guest seen with outside alcohol (first notice) | Politely inform the guest of the policy. Ask them to dispose of or return the beverage to their vehicle. Offer to serve them from our menu. |
| Guest refuses to comply | Notify a manager on duty. The guest may be asked to leave the premises. |
| Flagrant violation — openly displaying, sharing with others, or refusing to remove outside alcohol after being informed of the policy | Management may revoke access and/or ban the individual from the facility at its discretion. |
| Outside alcohol found during an event | Notify the event host immediately and remove the alcohol from the premises. Document the incident in shift notes. |
Staff guidelines
- Be courteous but firm. Most guests are unaware of the legal requirement — a brief, friendly explanation resolves the majority of situations.
- Suggested language: “Hey, just a heads-up — California law requires that all alcohol on our property be purchased through our license. I’d be happy to grab you something from our menu!”
- Document any refusal to comply or confrontational situations in the shift notes.
- Never confiscate a guest’s property by force. Escalate to management.
No Outside Alcohol Permitted California law requires all alcoholic beverages consumed on this property to be purchased on-site. Thank you for your cooperation.
